Too-long delayed since his return to the Bay Area, I had a chance to visit with Dave Winer on Monday in Berkeley. Over lunch, we caught up on all sorts of stuff and discovered some surprising things and similarities in our backgrounds. As always, Dave is working on some exciting new projects.
Glad to see he enjoyed Christopher Nolan’s Mememto, which is one of my ten all-time favorite films. I wonder if he noticed the giveaway shot. Did you?
I don’t know. What’s a “giveaway shot?”

Ah, the giveaway shot! It’s one of those things that if you know it, you know it. And if you don’t, you have no idea what I’m talking about.
I watched the film on DVD with my son and discussed it afterwards. He felt strongly about his interpretation, and said in support, “Didn’t you see the shot where […]?” We went back to the point he was describing, and sure enough, there are about five frames that flash on the screen that explain the plot. My son’s visual acuity is far better than mine, and he saw this the first time through, whereas I missed it in three screenings.
I don’t want to ruin it by giving it away here, so if you’re desperate to know, send me email.
