Cuba Workshops Itinerary

This is our generic itinerary. When you tell us which dates you want to go, you will receive a specific itinerary with specific hotels, restaurants, etc.

DAY 0 – Wednesday (Miami)

  • After you arrive in Miami and check into your hotel.
  • Optional: Team up with others and take a taxi to South Beach, Miami. Have the driver drop you at the corner of Ocean Avenue and 5th Street. From there, just start walking north on Ocean Avenue and enjoy the architecture.
  • Optional: Dinner together at a South Beach restaurant. This is outside the scope of our trip, so we’ll pay our own way.
  • Optional: After dinner, shoot the great neon lights of South Beach and returning by taxi to your hotel whenever you want.

DAY 1 – Thursday (to Havana)

  • Breakfast and lunch on your own.
  • Fly to Havana.
  • Walk and photograph with Doug on the Malećon (http://goo.gl/aOml43).
  • Lunch at a paladar (privately owned restaurant).
  • Visit the Romeo y Julieta cigar factory (http://goo.gl/pQaUj0).
  • Check into our hotel.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Overnight: Havana hotel.

DAY 2 — Friday (Havana)

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Tour Havana in restored classic American cars.
  • Visit the studio of Jesus Nodarse.
  • Walk through southern La Habana Vieja (Old Havana) with our Cuban photographer/guides.
  • Lunch at a local paladar.
  • Continue walking in southern Habana Vieja.
  • Visit a graphic arts studio and a dance school.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Overnight: Havana hotel.

DAY 3 — Saturday (Havana)

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Visit the Museo de la Revolución (Museum of the Revolution) http://goo.gl/tl0dH.
  • Walk and photograph in northern La Habana Vieja with our Cuban photographer/guides.
  • Lunch at a local paladar
  • After lunch, brief walking and shooting through northern La Habana Vieja.
  • Visit a local Saturday-afternoon Rhumba event.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Overnight: Havana hotel.

DAY 4 — Sunday (Havana)

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Walk and photograph in Centro Habana.
  • Lunch on your own.
  • More shooting in Centro Habana.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Optional: Late night cabaret or salsa show (on your own).
  • Overnight: Havana hotel.

DAY 5 — Monday (to Viñales)

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Check out and depart via bus to Viñales.
  • Lunch at a paladar enroute.
  • Check in at the casas particulares (private homes) where we will be spending two nights (http://goo.gl/oGrCid).
  • Visit a tobacco plantation with a tour guided by a biologist who specializes in the flora and fauna of the province of Pinar del Rio.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Overnight at casas particulares, Viñales.

DAY 6 — Tuesday (Viñales)

  • Breakfast in your casa particular.
  • Walk and shoot in Viñales.
  • Visit the archeological museum and a farmer’s home to get to know the life in the countryside of Cuba.
  • Lunch at an experimental ecological-organic farm. (Be prepared for a huge meal there!)
  • Dinner family style, cooked for us by our casas particulares hosts.
  • Overnight at casas particulares, Viñales.

DAY 7 — Wednesday (to Trinidad)

  • Breakfast early in your casa particular.
  • Bus to Cienfuegos — a long ride! (http://goo.gl/IJE9pS.)
  • Snack along the way.
  • Lunch a local paladar in Cienfuegos.
  • After lunch, walk through the town of Cienfuegos.
  • Continue our bus trip to Trinidad.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Optional: Live music on your own at Casa de la Trova (http://goo.gl/p06IcN).
  • Overnight in casas particulares (private homes), Trinidad.

DAY 8 — Thursday (Trinidad)

  • Breakfast in your casa particular.
  • Tour the town including a lecture by the historian of the village and a visit to an art gallery. Time to walk by ourselves through Trinidad.
  • Lunch at at a local paladar.
  • Head to the beach! (http://goo.gl/7dvy6u) Learn about the barrier reef and environmental protection in the area.
  • Dinner at a local paladar.
  • Optinal: Enjoy the music on your own at Casa de la Musica (http://goo.gl/1Enxyg).
  • Overnight in casas particulares, Trinidad.

DAY 9 – Friday (to Havana)

  • Breakfast in your casa particular.
  • Bus from Trinidad to Havana.
  • Lunch at a Havana paladar.
  • Free time after lunch
  • Farewell dinner a local paladar.
  • Overnight: Havana hotel.

DAY 10 – Saturday (to Miami)

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Lunch/snack on your own.
  • Fly to Miami, arriving late afternoon.
  • Fly home!
